UPDATE: Out last meeting was on September 7. Dr. Kyle Thompson, Regional Superintendent of Schools for ROE 11 addressed the group of 20+ members regarding the activities of the regional office. He spoke to us of the Bridges program, which is an alternative education option for students in grades 6-12 who have been suspended several times or on the verge of being expelled. He also discussed how his regional map of responsibility is the largest area in the state. Safety measures and inspections among the area schools were also brought up. Jane McKown, Moultrie County RTA president and Area 5 representative spoke as our second guest. She was encouraging members our group to consider serving at the state level positions. We all realize that this group protects our interests and serves to watchdog what is going on in the legislature regarding retired teachers.
Our business meeting generated a volunteer group of SCRTA members to serve to develop a method to disseminate the funds that were generated by the Monical's Community Day event that occurred on July 19. That group met recently and will report their progress at upcoming November 2 meeting.
Those present at the meeting were Ginnie Hostetler, Jenifer Harvey, Lucy Curry, LaVonne Chaney, John VanVoorhis, Julie Gloede, Sylvia Miller, David Curry, Sandy Shaffer, Patsy Lenz, Janet Schultz, Ted McKown, Jane McKown, Nancy Wilhelm, Ione Elliott, Lana Pancoast, Bob Pancoast, Bud Wilhelm, Kim Sparks, Jim Sparks and Deb McFarland joined us via Zoom.

Retired teachers health insurance was brought up at our last meeting. I have received some subsequent emails with questions about the change in provider as recommended by CMS and subsequently approved by the legislature. Many are concerned that our previous HMO option will not be available. State retired employees will only have Aetna's PPO coverage. We are keeping out ear to the ground on this. Below you will find the latest information received from IRTA regarding this change for all Medicare eligible retired teachers.
