UPDATE:. The last meeting was on Wednesday, Septermber 6, 2023. Joe Houk impressed us with the new Shelbyville Police Department's new dog Chip, which he has been training since he visited our group last year. Illinois Representative, Brad Halbrook, discussed new district boundry map and how the 107th District has changed. He believes that the state needs to develop a 401K plan for future teacher retirement.

from President Jim Sparks
I would like to thank all of the members of the Shelby County Retired Teachers Association for their attendance and participation in our meetings in 2023. I ask you to please encourage retired teachers of Shelby County that have not joined us to consider being a part of our group. If they come and see the happy faces and the programs we put on I'm sure that they will want to come again.
I am looking forward to our November 1, 2023 meeting. Illinois State Senator, Steve McClure, will be joining us for the very first time and will undoubtably present us with meaningful information on his approach to teachers and education. The business meeting will follow with several items to discuss. We will be talking about our SCRTA MiniGrant applications and upcoming selection of winners. Finally, we will bring you information from the recent IRTA Biennial Convention held in Springfield. Don't forget that we will also be doing a Monical's Community Day event on November 1st to raise funds for the teacher mini grants. 20% of all lunch and supper sales will be donated to SCRTA providing that the flyer is presented on paper or on your phone.
